Dennison's Meadow

Development of Dennison's Meadow- this plot of land while is on the other side of the stream from the Engine Fields, has been designated for industrial since the 1960s. As far as we know there are no Public Rights of Way across the land although there are several footpaths across from the Albert Shutt Bridge to the Railway Track. Back when the Friends built the bridge the owner (who went bankrupt some time later) gave permission for the bridge to be built and a section of path approaching the bridge to be improved.

In early May 2003, when a fence was erected around the plot the Friends contacted the owners for information about what was happening (this was partly self preservation since we'd received numerous phone calls about the fence and heard numerous rumors - all exaggerated - about what was going to be built there.)

At the date of our meeting (22nd May 2003) the developer's plans were far from complete but included only 5 small industrial units (each about the size of a detached house). The path running from the Westfield Industrial estate to the Railway Track and parallel to the stream would be retained and the land within about 30ft of the stream would be undeveloped.

The developer also promised that there would be a public meeting to discuss the plans in early July.

The Friends are currently discussing with the developer the possibility of the strip of land beside the stream becoming part of the Engine Fields and working on plans for its ecological development.

In January 2004 planning permssion was applied for and granted. But as of June 2004 no work as started at the site.
